Bespoke Kitchen Wall Units

Here at Dust Shack we love building furniture that make people’s homes unique. Recently we were asked to build kitchen wall units made from Baltic birch plywood, to complete a customer’s home renovation. After looking at endless cream kitchen units from the popular high street retailers, they decided to approach us for a custom build.
The customer had already engaged a builder to undertake the kitchen renovations and as such had a number of sketches detailing the measurements and designs (as seen below). The request was for two floating box shelves, a floating shelf with sliding doors, and two kitchen wall units. We were able to use the information provided to draw up a quote and for payment to be made.
Detailed digital 3D drawings were then produced to help the customer to better visualise the units. We arranged a video call where we talked through the designs and made final tweaks to accommodate under-unit lighting, positioning of shelves, door styles and discuss the finishing touches. A sample of the various finishes was posted out to the customer so they could make an informed decision about the final tones of the wood. Finally, we confirmed everything in a specifications document which the customer reviewed and approved before work on the units commenced. This process took one week.
We then began manufacturing the units using a combination of our digital woodworking technologies and traditional carpentry methods, to cut, build, sand and finish to the highest of standards.
Finally, after a thorough quality check, the fully assembled items were boxed up and shipped on a pallet to the customer. The manufacturing process took a further two weeks from start to finish.
The customer had arranged for a builder to install the units. As such, we produced an installation manual to provide the builder with the information they required, and added our contact details for any questions or queries.
On delivery of the items we received this message from our customer:
“All the units are perfect, I’m honestly so please I found you guys – I think this aspect is going to make the kitchen design. The instructions are so clear and helpful too. As soon as it’s all done I will send photos. Thank you so much for all the attention to detail, advice and patience in getting to the final design. I couldn’t rate Dust Shack higher!”
And we’re delighted to have received the following photos of the wall units fully fitted in their new home. As a finishing touch, we also provided the Baltic birch plywood door knobs for the base units, completing this very stylish kitchen!
